ANGELINA GHANA

TSOLAKIS ARCHITECTS: FIRST PRIZE IN AN INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION FOR THE DESIGN OF THE  MASTERPLAN OF THE ANGELINA AMUSEMENT & DEVELOPMENT PARK IN GHANA.

The Angelina amusement development park is situated in the greater Accra region. It covers an area of 1,400 Acres on the outskirts of Aburi. The archetypes of traditional Ghanaian architecture are the inspiration for our Design Proposal. The round shaped units, their grouping around an atrium with only one entrance and exit, the fencing around the build entities have been part of our research that eventually produced the Master Plan Design. The development comprises an amusement park that combines the most advanced technological features together with a traditional Family Park. The core of the development is the commercial area. A circular building with a void in the middle symbolizes the primal architectural cell around which everything is organized: the shopping malls, the restaurants and bars, the business center and the basic amenities The area of the sports courts and all the athletic facilities, including the large arenas are placed close to the center of the development in a vibrant landscape with large green areas and tree shading that will enhance the microclimate of the site.  The golf course is set on the valley between the two hills. It is an 18-hole golf with sand traps and water features. The club house and all the facilities are situated at the foot of the hill. The hotel complex serves as a landmark, a visual icon for the visitors. The 15-storey building offers outstanding views to the rest of the site and far beyond. It serves as a point of orientation for the visitor. The housing follows the spatial model of organization around a central void, like the other parts of the development. Two neighborhoods- clusters are created in the two ‘hills’ that surround and oversee the ‘valley’ of public uses. On the top of each hill, parks with communal uses are designed. There, residents can find restaurants, kindergartens, schools, meeting spaces and other facilities.

The project will be implemented in 4 phases that is expected to be completed within 7 years. The overall budget will be approximately 350 million dollars.
